Eire Óg 0-16 Rosscarbery 1-12 (15)The ladies from Eire Óg captured the 1B Senior League title with a one point win over Rosscarbery in Bishopstown on Sunday afternoon. Rosscarbery got off to a great start when Laura McMahon got the ball from the throw in delivered it to full forward Micheala Davis who crashed the ball to the back of the Eire Óg net after only 10 seconds they followed this up with 3 well taken points before Eimear Scally got Eire Óg off the mark in the sixth minute. Ross now hit a purple patch and played some lovely football scoring a further four points to put them in a very comfortable lead after only thirteen minutes. Their centre field pairing were well on top which allowed the forwards to pick off easy points. Eire Óg never gave up and picked off their points to just about keep them in touch but it was the Ladies from the west who finished the half slightly stronger and led at half time by 1-10 to 0-07. Ross scored the first point in the second period with a good point from Sinead O Brien and it looked as if the tie was all but gone from Eire Óg .Not so as they hit back with a string of unanswered points and began to grow in confidence. Ross appeared to loose their shape at the back as the young guns from Eire Óg ran at them from all angles and narrowed the gap. Points were exchanged with Ross managing to stay in front by the narrowest of margins until Captain Elaine Scally landed a great point to level matters in the 30 minute. Up and down the field the ball went with both sides missing chances until Eire Óg were awarded a free some 44 mts from goal. Eimear Scally pumped the ball in and was only half cleared and went to the waiting Aine Cronin who duly put the ball over the bar to give Eire Óg the lead for the first time in the match. As time ticked by Ross to their credit went up the field and were awarded a 30 mts free which went harmlessly wide. From the resulting kick out Ross again mounted a final attack and yet again won them selves a free this time from the 13 mts line but unfortunately the ball hit the upright and the referee blew the final whistle to leave Eire Óg victorious by a single point. So joy for the Ladies from Eire Óg and heartbreak for the Rosscarbery girls but credit to both teams as they gave it everything and served up a great game of Ladies Football.
