Cork Seniors get back to winning ways with victory over Clare
Cork 0-20 Clare 0-8
Cork got their Munster Championship campaign back on track with a comprehensive 12 point victory over Clare in Shannon on Friday 28th June.
In a must win game for the Rebels following their first round defeat at the hands of Kerry a week earlier Cork finished strongly to set themselves up for a Munster Final berth on July 13th in Castletownroche.
Clare started well against a sluggish Cork outfit racing into a 4 points to 1 lead before Cork courtesy of 4 points from Valarie Mulcahy had the Rebels back in front by the end of the 1st quarter. With Cork dominating possession around the middle the Clare girls began to struggle to regain a foothold in the game as Cork stretched their lead on the scoreboard.
A fine save by Clare keeper Susan Higgins from a Rhona Ní Bhuachalla effort on the stroke of half time kept Clare in the game trailing by 0-10 to 0-6 at the short whistle.
Cork introduced Doireann Ó Sullivan for Rhona Ní Bhuachalla at the start of the second half and the young Mourneabbey girl made a fine contribution causing the Clare defence problems with her strong running and fine point from distance.
A the second half progressed Cork moved up the gears and with the introduction of fresh legs from their bench soon put the contest beyond their Clare opponents.
On the night it finished Cork 0-20 Clare 0-8 with the Rebels now waiting on the result of the Round 3 clash of Kerry and Clare in Scartaglen on Sat 6th of July before confirmation of the Munster Final pairing on July 13th.
