Cork U14s and U16s make winning start to Munster Championship Campaign
Well done to the Cork U14 and Cork U16 teams who made a winning start to their Munster Championship campaigns.
In a double header played in perfect conditions for the time of the year in CIT on Monday 18th March both Cork teams proved too strong for their Kerry opponents in their respective 1st Round ties.
First up were the U14 girls making their Championship debuts in the Rebel Jersey. The girls got into their stride quickly notching up some fine scores.
On the day Cork dominated the game running out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 8-15 to 1-1. A subdued Kerry performance on the day is unlikely to be repeated should the teams meet again later in the Championship so the Cork girls will look to build on a fine opening performance as they prepare for the challenges that lie ahead.
Our U16s recoverd well from the concession of an early goal against their Kerry counterparts and asserted their dominance as the first half progressed with a fine display of team work and score taking against a Kerry team that performed well below the standard that they are capable of when the stakes are raised to Championship knockout pitch.
The game never developed into the contest that Cork have become accustomed to when facing their great rivals in the heat of championship battle. The final score 0f 5-16 to 2-4 in this 1st Round encounter was comprehensive on the day but the Cork girls will know that they would face a much stiffer test should they meet this Kerry team later in the Championship when the stakes will be much higher.
Well done to both the U14 and U16 Teams and their Management on their opening victories in the Munster Championship as both squads prepare for the hard work that will be necessary to progress further in their Championship journeys.
