Historical Club (Cork) to honour Mary Ó Connor - Fri 25th Oct - Two Mile Inn
The Historical Club (Cork) selected Mary for our upcoming October award as recognition of the key part the sporting women of Cork have played for many years. Eamon Ryan (we honoured Eamon in March 2013) has been so influential in the last 10 years promoting Cork ladies football, stated that when he took over Cork Ladies Football a decade ago, he commented that Mary O’Connor was a key component of his future ambition to make Cork Ladies Football a powerhouse all over Ireland.
A dual star, the Killeagh native has made Cork people mighty proud of her roots in being a Rebel Cork camogie and football All Ireland player. We can, in ladies parlance , say that Mary O’Connor stands aside all the greats of Cork hurling and football legends since the foundation of the GAA in 1884.
The Club & Community Award is a major social event with great emphasis placed on inviting family, relatives, sports colleagues, clubs and administrators associated with the recipient down through the years. It is also an opportunity for the recipient to invite neighbours and people in the community they grew up with to come along and celebrate a glorious sporting life at a venue selected by us.
The venue selected is The Two Mile Inn Function Room (2 miles out of Midleton – main road to Castlemartyr) with a major patron facility and we hope for a full house on this great occasion.
The Tribute & Presentation will take place at 9pm on Friday 25 th October 2013 (Bank Holiday W/E)
Also on the agenda for the tribute presentation at The Two Mile Inn, Mary will be inducted into The All Ireland Hall OfFame Gallery
Our special tribute events also incorporate great music and song by a number of performers and we have showcased local talent on several occasions.
To further honour Mary’s distinguished sporting career the Lord Mayor Of Cork will also hold a special reception at Cork City Hall earlier that same day.
The tribute event is by INVITATION from The Historical Club (Cork) and Mary O’Connor.
