Cork U16s reach All Ireland Final with victory over Galway
Cork 3-10 Galway 0-8
Cork reached the U16 All Ireland Final for the second year in succession with a well deserved victory over Galway in the Semi Final played in the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick on Sat 10th August.
Three first half goals for Cork , one in the 1st minute and one in the 30th minute laid the foundations for what was a solid victory for the Rebels as they controlled the game throughout.
Despite not having had a championship outing since their Munster Final victory over Kerry in April it was the Cork girls who got out of the block quickest as they took the game to Galway surging to a 2-2-2 to 0-3 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. Galway responded with three quick points to cut the deficit to 4 points as the game entered the closing stages of the half. The Rebels regained the initiative with a point and then struck a decisive blow with a fine goal on the stoke of half time leaving the Galway girls with a huge task for the second half trailing 3-05 to 0-06.
With the heavy lifting done in the first half Cork took control of the contest as the second half unfolded outscoring their opponents by 0-5 to 0-3 to seal a well deserved victory.
Cork will now face a Dublin team who had an impressive 6-13 to 0-02 victory over Cavan in the other Semi Final.
The Final is set for 24th August which will be a big day on the Ladies Football calendar for both counties with the Seniors set for a Quarter Final showdown on the same day.
Well done to the U16 team and management and best of luck as they prepare for the decider in a couple of weeks time
