Cork rally to snatch victory against resurgent Armagh
Cork 0-16 Armagh 2-9
Cork got their TG4 All Ireland Championship campaign back on track with a hard fought one point victory over an Armagh side that pushed the Rebels to wire in a dramatic Round 2 Qualifier in Birr on Saturday evening.
Dominating the 1st half exchanges Cork led by 0-10 to 0-03 at the half time whistle and looked to be in full control of the contest.
A failure to convert a number of goal scoring opportunities during the opening half almost came back to haunt the Rebels in the second as a revitalised Armagh side produced some sparkling football scoring two excellent goals to turn the contest on it’s head and set up a dramatic final quarter.
With the sides level at 2-7 to 0-13 with thirteen minutes remaining and the momentum firmly in their favour Armagh took the game to Cork in a battle for championship survival that that tested the character and resolve of the Rebels to it’s very limits.
When the need was greatest this Cork Team showed as they have done on many occasions in the past that they are truly a “Champion” team and despite struggling to regain the levels they reached in the opening half they steadfastly refused to yield as they came from behind to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in the closing minutes.
Cork will now face Leinster Champions Dublin in a what promises to be a mouth watering Quarter Final clash on Aug 24th.
