First Half Hat-trick from Valarie Mulcahy rocks Dublin as Cork secure their 3rd victory in Round 4 of the Tesco Homegrown National League.
Cork 6-13 Dublin 2-8A powerhouse display from Cork’s inside forward line who notched up a tally of 6-8 proved too much for Dublin in the Tesco Homegrown National League Round 4 clash in Fermoy.
Cork got out of the blocks in emphatic manner in this clash with Dublin. Aghada’s Emma Farmer opened the scoring after 4 minutes with a point from play. This was quickly followed by two goals from Valarie Mulcahy and Rhona NÍ Bhuachalla as Dublin struggled against a dominant Cork outfit. It took Dublin until the sixteenth minute to register their first score – a free from Sinead Aherne.
With the Cork half backline totally in control Dublin struggled to make any impression on the scoreboard. A second goal from Rhona Ní Buachalla was followed by one of the best moves of the day as great link up play between Doireann O’ Sullivan and Orlagh Farmer saw the Cork girls cut through the Dublin defence before O’ Sullivan released Valarie Mulcahy to complete her hat-trick leaving the score at 5-3 to Dublin’s 0-1.
Dublin got the scoreboard ticking over in the final ten minutes of the half to leave the score at the short whistle at 5-6 to 0-5.
An early goal and a point in the second half signalled a mini-revival from the Dublin girls but Cork responded with points from Rena Buckley, Orla Finn and Doireann O’ Sullivan before a quick thinking Valarie Mulcahy caught the Dublin defence napping when she goalled from a free to end the game as a contest.
On the day Cork were too strong for their Dublin opponents and have now won 3 on the trot. Next up for the Rebels is an away fixture with Mayo on March 24th.
Cork scorers – V. Mulcahy 4-2, R. Ní Bhuachalla 2-3, E. Farmer 0-3, R. Buckley 0-2, D. O’ Sullivan 0-1.
